Borussia Dortmund have reached an agreement in principle to sign Konstantinos Karetsas, the Greek left-back currently at AEK Athens. The 22-year-old defender emerges as a key target for the Bundesliga outfit as they bolster their defensive ranks following a challenging 2023–24 campaign in which they finished runners-up in the league behind Bayer Leverkusen, ultimately reaching the Champions League final before suffering defeat to Real Madrid in June.

Karetsas's arrival addresses Dortmund's need for reinforcement at left-back, a position that demands tactical flexibility and athletic prowess in both domestic and European competition. The Greek international has featured prominently for AEK Athens in recent seasons, earning recognition across the Super League and continental fixtures, whilst Dortmund seek to recover from last term's title collapse that saw them accumulate 71 points—still substantial, yet insufficient to dethrone Leverkusen's remarkable unbeaten season. His recruitment reflects the club's ambition to construct a squad capable of mounting a serious title challenge.

The transfer remains subject to finalisation of contractual terms and medical clearance, though the agreement in principle signals imminent completion. Karetsas would join a side competing in the Bundesliga and Champions League next season, following Dortmund's qualification for Europe's premier competition despite their domestic disappointment. The move represents a significant step in the defender's career trajectory, offering him the platform to develop amongst elite talent at one of Germany's most ambitious institutions.
