Celta Vigo has secured Senegalese prospect Abdoulaye Faye on loan from Bayer Leverkusen as the Galician club bolsters its defensive options for the remainder of the season. The 21-year-old defender completes his temporary switch to the La Liga outfit, who currently occupy tenth position in Spain's top division with 28 points from 19 matches. Faye, who progressed through Leverkusen's youth academy, joins a Celta side seeking to climb clear of the relegation zone through the January transfer window.

The addition of Faye represents a crucial reinforcement for Celta's backline, as manager Rafa Benitez looks to stabilise a defence that has conceded 31 goals this season—the fourth-worst record in La Liga. Leverkusen, currently competing for the Bundesliga title and holding second place, have permitted the loan departure to allow Faye regular first-team football away from the Allianz Stadium, where minutes have proven limited. This arrangement mirrors comparable deals where German clubs loan promising defenders to develop match sharpness in competitive European leagues.

Faye will wear the Celta shirt with ambitions of making a decisive impact during the second half of the campaign, with the club requiring immediate defensive solidity to avoid a slide towards the bottom three. His arrival on loan carries no obligation to buy, giving both parties flexibility should circumstances change. The defender made just eight appearances for Leverkusen's senior squad this term, making the move to Spain a genuine opportunity to gain valuable experience at a critical stage of his development.
