Juventus have reached an agreement to sign Colombian defender Juan Lucumí from Bologna, bringing the centre-back to Turin in a move that strengthens the Bianconeri's defensive options. Lucumí, 24, enjoyed a stellar campaign with Bologna last season, making 34 Serie A appearances as the Emilia-Romagna club finished fifth and secured European football. The transfer represents a significant reinforcement for a Juventus side that has invested heavily in defensive stability under manager Massimiliano Allegri.

This acquisition matters considerably given Juventus's recent struggles in central defence and their ambitions to reclaim the Serie A title. Lucumí's ball-playing ability and aerial dominance complement Juventus's passing philosophy, whilst Bologna's fifth-place finish demonstrated his readiness for a club competing at the highest level. The move also follows the Serie A champions' pattern of acquiring defenders in their prime years, much like their pursuit of Gleison Bremer two summers prior, signalling a commitment to building a formidable backline for their Champions League campaign.

The Colombian international will compete with existing centre-backs including Danilo and Bremer for regular minutes as Juventus prepare for a demanding 2024–25 season across multiple competitions. Lucumí made 35 appearances across all competitions for Bologna last term, demonstrating his fitness and consistency at the highest domestic level. His arrival provides Allegri with greater tactical flexibility and depth, crucial assets as the club pursues both domestic silverware and Champions League progression.
