Manchester City have reached personal terms with Lille defender Ayyoub Bouaddi as negotiations between the two clubs continue over his transfer. The 21-year-old centre-back has emerged as a key target for Pep Guardiola's side following their domestic dominance, having won the Premier League for the fourth consecutive season in 2024. Bouaddi's agreement to terms represents a significant step forward, though the clubs must still finalise a fee before the move reaches completion.
The acquisition would bolster City's defensive depth at a critical juncture, with Manuel Akanji, Rúben Dias, and John Stones forming a formidable core that has helped the club concede just 31 league goals this season. Bouaddi made 24 appearances for Lille in Ligue 1 last campaign, establishing himself as a composed defender capable of stepping up from the French league to English football's highest level. City's pursuit of elite young talent mirrors their recruitment strategy, having recently integrated academy prospects whilst maintaining their trophy-winning standards.
The final hurdle lies with Lille, where Bouaddi remains under contract until 2027, giving the Ligue 1 club considerable leverage in negotiations. Should the deal progress, City would add a defender with significant upside and international experience to their squad rotation, following the template of previous signings who have adapted seamlessly to Guardiola's system. With the January transfer window closing soon, both clubs face pressure to accelerate discussions and determine whether the centre-back will complete his move to the Etihad.
