Tottenham Hotspur manager Roberto De Zerbi is already facing intense scrutiny following a turbulent start to the Premier League campaign, with club hierarchy privately identifying former boss Mauricio Pochettino as the only viable successor. Despite taking the reins at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium with high tactical expectations, the Italian coach has struggled to translate his brand of possession football into consistent domestic results. Pressure mounted rapidly after a dismal run of form that left the North London outfit languishing in the bottom half of the English top flight, trailing significantly behind the coveted UEFA Champions League qualification places. Supporters and board members alike are growing increasingly restless, drawing unfavorable comparisons to the club's previous managerial eras under more pragmatic tacticians.
The murmurs surrounding Pochettino’s potential sensational return gain immense credibility when examining his historical tenure in North London between 2014 and 2019, where he famously guided Spurs to their first-ever Champions League final and established them as consistent top-four contenders. During that golden era, the Argentine manager cultivated a vibrant, high-pressing identity while masterminding memorable European nights at Wembley and the new stadium. Since his departure, the club has cycled through several high-profile managers including Jose Mourinho, Nuno Espirito Santo, Antonio Conte, and Ange Postecoglou, none of whom managed to capture the long-term stability and cultural alignment that Pochettino initially forged. His current availability following recent high-profile managerial stints has naturally amplified speculation among fans eager for a familiar unifying figure to restore the club's competitive edge.
As Tottenham prepares for a daunting fixture schedule that includes crucial domestic derbies and European commitments, the decision-makers face a defining moment regarding De Zerbi's immediate future at the helm. SokaLive understands that another negative result in their upcoming Premier League fixture could force the board's hand, triggering formal succession talks sooner than anticipated. With a demanding fan base expecting a return to elite European football and silverware, the margin for error has evaporated entirely in North London. The upcoming weeks will ultimately determine whether De Zerbi can engineer a dramatic tactical turnaround or if the club will accelerate plans to bring back the beloved Argentine architect.
