Trinbago Knight Riders have bolstered their squad ahead of the Women's Caribbean Premier League summit clash by securing experienced Indian wicketkeeper-batter Sushma Verma as a replacement player. Verma steps into the setup following the departure of compatriot Yastika Bhatia, who was forced to exit the tournament early to join the India A squad for their upcoming multi-format domestic and international developmental assignments. The seasoned 35-year-old Himachal Pradesh cricketer brings immense international pedigree to the Caribbean franchise, having represented India in one Test match, 43 One Day Internationals, and 43 Twenty20 Internationals since making her debut back in 2014.
Verma arrives at a crucial juncture for the Trinbago Knight Riders, who have already secured their direct qualification to the Women's Caribbean Premier League final after a dominant campaign in the preliminary round. Her renowned glovework behind the stumps and deep understanding of high-pressure match scenarios will prove invaluable for a franchise chasing championship glory. The dynamic wicketkeeper previously gained valuable global franchise experience by featuring in major international women's T20 leagues, including notable stints in the Women's T20 Challenge and domestic Indian circuits where she established her reputation as a reliable lower-order accumulator and tactical strategist.
As the tournament reaches its thrilling climax, the Trinbago Knight Riders await the winner of the high-stakes playoff battle between the Barbados Tridents and the Guyana Amazon Warriors. Verma will immediately slot into the playing eleven calculations, providing captain Deandra Dottin and the coaching staff with tactical flexibility and experienced leadership. With the grand finale scheduled at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy, the inclusion of a battle-tested campaigner like Verma ensures the Knight Riders maintain their championship momentum despite the untimely exit of their star opening batter Bhatia.
